Some Archivalist I Am

So there is the obvious lack of an archive of my work on this site. Another one of those weights I need to get off of my shoulders, something I’ve been putting off for too long. One step at a time.
But you know who is really great being an Archivalist?
Answer
Joel has scanned his entire library of printed and bound material. Pretty impressive.
You can find the cover to pretty much every zine I’ve ever made here.
I guess I’ll just have to stick to being the face of the Archivalist for now.

Finding Legs

Alright, so in an effort to do things on a regular basis, I’m going to fill in the blanks. Things I should have linked or made known long ago. Hopefully it will serve to jump start things around here.

Pictured above is a copy of the Archivalist #4: Expansum Edition. A facsimile Moleskine (the regular edition was a compilation of my Moleskine’s greatest hits) complete with a black rubber band, and scrap collecting envelope. And check out that cryptic black on black cover! I only put together about 15 of these, so lucky you if you have one.

Which brings me to my blog objective for the day: Parcell Press

Currently the only internet outlet for my inventory of printed matter, they have the last few copies of the Expansum, available here.

Also available: the regular edition of the Archivalist 4, some small prints, and Restcure Revival (I’ll talk about this one later in the week.)

Taylor runs Parcell Press and does a stand-up job of it, so whether or not you find my stuff interesting, you should take a look around, there’s tons of good stuff.

Lastly, I would like to give thanks to Goldmine Anthology for taking my stuff along with them to King Con in Brooklyn last weekend. Wish I could have been there with them.

Massive Artist Layoffs

Back when the economy started to go south I started to worry how it might effect me and my job as an artist. Then one day in the mail I received a notice informing me that I had been laid off. I was to cease and desist all art making and art related activities (like blogging about art!) I was devastated, art was the most important thing in my life. I desperately sought out new hobbies to parlay into a full time career but to no avail. Nothing was as satisfying as pulling a brush thick with oil paint across a freshly stretched canvas. So I decided to lower my standards and seek an entry level position in art. And surprisingly I was hired on by an arts chain within a couple of months on the market. It’s going to be hard to paint and blog my way back up to the top, but I just feel so lucky to be given the opportunity.

I’m so excited for this show. It’s been my pleasure to assemble some of my very best buds to contribute to this unique art experience. Everyone has generously donated pieces to be displayed for barter or purchase the night of the opening, more on that in the press release below. This time of year is always so crazy, it’s really nice to attempt something good in the midst of all the chaos.

PRESS RELEASE:
Thanky is pleased to present the second installment of everyone’s favorite food trade for art: Foodist Colony!Clean out your pantry and bring your non-perishables for bartering during the opening reception on December 5th. Up for grabs in the trading post will be work by more than 30 artists. Special consideration will be given to high protein and organic donations.

Last year we were able to raise over 300 pounds of food. With your support we can exceed that number this year! Use this opportunty to give back to your commmunity and support artists that have that same goal in mind. Like last year, all donations will benefit the Central Virginia Food Bank.

Artists involoved in the show are a diverse group with close ties to central Virginia, including:

I whipped up this 3-color jammy for Thanky this week. If you are in the area come on out!

A little late on the notice, but I’ll be at the zine fest here in Richmond VA tomorrow, starting at 11 and going until 5. I’ll have newish prints and backstock galore! Jeremy Taylor is sharing a table with me and also Andy Jenkins. Come say “hello” and support capitalism and the economy, but also anarchy and DIY type stuff.

Again, not on the ball. This is a flyer for the trade print show at SNAP mentioned a few posts back. More pictures to come on that I’m sure. Thanks to David for including us!

I’ve been adding stuff to the different sections, please make me aware of any blatant mistakes or omissions.
It’s October tomorrow, that means Fall nostalgia is almost in full swing. It also means that the next “Handmake” is right around the corner. October 25 in the Quirk gallery parking lot. More details as soon as I figure them out. Send me an email if you think you might want to set up a table, or if you want to be added to the mailing list. Did you know I could blog other people’s photos straight from flickr? fun.
This is a poster (wrapped in it’s own special paper) I designed and printed for Thanky’s grand opening. It’s a scaled down version of a split poster we originally did with the Autumn-Addict show. But when Thanky’s opening date changed, I whipped this one up.
Brothers and sisters have been working hard on the space, and expect it to knock you on your ass every month. Richmond needed this.

David asked Max and I to participate in a “trade print” he was helping organize over at SNAP. These are the prints bound up in their specialized packaging ready to ship. Max’s is on the left, and mine is on the right. Can’t wait to see pictures from the show, and get my very own copy of all the work. Printmaking is, by far, the superior way to share art.

It’s been a busy month, but I don’t see any signs of things slowing down soon. I’m working on a sign for Thanky, and various other print projects are right around the corner. And don’t worry, a mega update is in the works!! Like maybe tomorrow? Don’t quote me.
